Title IX

The Title IX Office provides reports of gender-based discrimination and harassment, including sexual misconduct and gender equity. Sexual misconduct includes, but is not limited to, sexual harassment, non-consensual sexual contact, non-consensual sexual intercourse, sexual exploitation, stalking, domestic violence, dating violence, and other forms of gender-based misconduct. Other forms of gender-based misconduct may include bullying or harassment on the basis of one's actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

The Title IX Process

  1. Incident allegedly occurs
  2. The incident is reported
  3. Title IX Office is notified
  4. The incident report is evaluated
  5. The Title IX Office conducts an introductory meeting with involved parties
  6. If warranted, a formal complaint is filed
  7. Formal investigation begins, interviews of all involved parties and witnesses are conducted, evidence is submitted and examined 
  8. Upon completion of the investigation, a formal hearing is conducted OR an informal resolution session is conducted, each leading to a decision/outcome
  9. If applicable, an appeal proceeding ensues

Complainants (the individual to whom the incident occurred) and Respondents (the individual who allegedly perpetrated the incident) may choose to have a procedural adviser and / or advocate. They may choose their own procedural adviser or request an adviser be provided. The purpose of a procedural advisor is to help the Complainant or Respondent in understanding the investigative and hearing process. They help prepare for the formal hearing or resolution session, attend the investigative interviews and participate in the formal hearing or resolution session. Procedural advisers are not required.
