The Upward Bound Math and Science program is designed is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science. The program encourages participants to pursue postsecondary degrees and careers in the math and science profession.

The Upward Bound Math and Science Program is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program provides cost free education services for sixty-five low income and/or first-generation (neither parent has a four year degree) students from Capitol Hill, Crooked Oak, Douglass, Northeast Academy and Star Spencer High Schools.

Program Services

  • Summer programs with intensive math and science training
  • Year-round counseling and advisement
  • Exposure to university faculty members who do research in mathematics and the sciences
  • Computer Training
  • Participant-conducted scientific research
  • Education or counseling services for financial and economic literacy
  • Programs and activities designed for students who are limited English proficient, students with disabilities, students who are homeless and students who are in foster care or are aging out of foster care.

Participant Eligibility

  1. A US citizen, naturalized or permanent resident.
  2. Must be currently enrolled at Capitol Hill, Crooked Oak, Douglass, Northeast Academy or Star Spencer High School.
  3. Must be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior with at least a 2.7 G.P.A.
  4. Must be a potential first-generation college student and/or meet federal financial guidelines as defined by the US Department of Education.
