The Master of Music in Jazz Studies is highly specialized and requires students to develop professional level skills with an emphasis in performance or music production. In addition to numerous concert experiences, these professional skills are demonstrated through a graduate recital for the performance emphasis and through a completed CD album for the music production emphasis. Additionally, students will expand abilities in research, academic writing, pedagogy, arranging and composition, history, music technology, and career management at a more comprehensive level than can be obtained as an undergraduate. The University of Central Oklahoma is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Our emphasis is on real-world experience, and the UCO Jazz Lab facility has consistently provided more performance opportunities for our students than almost any other jazz program in the nation. Our top students also frequently interface with the Oklahoma City metro music scene, performing professionally on a weekly basis. Applied study with talented and experienced faculty will challenge students and help them to develop the skills necessary to succeed in this competitive field. Students also study music theory, music history, literature, pedagogy and more.
