Music - Jazz Performance
Jazz Performance majors at Central join our internationally respected jazz program, which dates dating back to 1960. Generations of our jazz students have moved on to successful professional careers around the world — in performance, education, music production, engineering, arts management, and other diverse fields. Students from any major or program of study on campus are invited to audition and perform with our Jazz majors perform in groups such as Jazz Ensembles 1-4, six unique Jazz Combos, the "Chamber Swingers” Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Symphony Orchestra, the Percussion Consort, and pit orchestras. Our emphasis is on real-world experience, and the UCO Jazz Lab facility has consistently provided more performance opportunities for our students than almost any other jazz program in the nation nationwide. Our top students also frequently interface with the Oklahoma City metro music scene, performing professionally on a weekly basis. Applied study with talented and experienced faculty will challenge students and help them to develop the skills necessary to succeed in this competitive field. Students also study music theory, music history, literature, pedagogy and more.
