SafeWalk
SafeWalk is a 24/7 service provided to students, faculty, and staff by the University Police to request assistance or report suspicious activity. This service aims to help people feel comfortable when walking to their cars or between buildings on campus. SafeWalks are provided on foot, by golf cart, or when available, a police patrol unit by either a community service (student) officer or a uniformed police officer. Requesting this service is easy:
- Go to the SafeWalk phone located in most campus buildings. Pressing the call button will connect you to Police dispatch.
- A request can also be made in person at the University Police building or from any phone by calling 405-974-2345.
- Tell the dispatcher your name and location.
- Wait for a member of the University Police to arrive at your location.
Note: This service is not for medical transport. This policy also includes individuals with walking assistance devices (crutches, etc.).
If you have a medical emergency, please call 9-1-1.
If University Police receives a call but gets no response or experiences a hang-up, dispatch will send an officer to do a welfare check on the area reported by Caller ID.
There are some limitations to this service:
- SafeWalk is limited to within the campus borders. Officers will take you as far as a campus boundary and visually observe you for as long as it is possible.
- Our officers work to balance campus service needs continuously and will respond as quickly as possible unless there is an emergency elsewhere on campus. Please be patient and prepared to remain at your starting location until a staff person can arrive.
- SafeWalk is not a transportation service; it is a service intended to make people feel comfortable on campus. Please do not submit a request just because of inclement weather.
If you have questions about SafeWalk, please contact the University Police at 405-974-2345.
