Central proudly supports and embraces diversity and is dedicated to ensure cultural awareness into every aspect of our university community. A part of this commitment is through advocacy, cultural celebrations, and intentional educational efforts of the numerous campus organizations and university programs that contribute to the cultural competency development of all students.
UCO has one of the most diverse student bodies of any higher education institution in Oklahoma. With more than 30% of our student body identifying as African American, Native American, Asian, Hispanic, or multiracial and more 1,500 international students from 108 countries, our ethnic and cultural diversity is extensive. In addition, women comprise over half of our student body and our 2014 campus climate diversity report stated that nearly 10% identified as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and more than 20% reported having a learning or physical disability.
These statistics are some of the highlights of the diversity that is embraced and celebrated at UCO. Our rich diversity allows students from all backgrounds and experiences to find a home at Central. In addition to our hospitable and inclusive campus climate, our commitment to the global and cultural competence development of our students ensures that UCO is dedicated to promoting the participation and academic success of UCO students so they can succeed in our ever-growing global society.
