The Employee Relations department empowers all UCO employees to achieve their highest potential at work each day, positively impacting the lives of our students and the community. We act as a liaison between employer and employee, fostering an influential feedback culture through engagement, empowerment and advocacy.
While a significant function of our team is to enforce compliance of employment policy and procedures, we also manage programs that promote employee appreciation, recognition and support. Our team strives to enhance the employee experience for all of those who call UCO their work home.

Exceptional Performance Award
We want to recognize our employees for performance that reflects the innovative, passionate, student- and customer-centered focus that UCO has embraced. An Exceptional Performance Award of $500 is given to one staff recipient quarterly, and an annual award of $1250 goes to three recipients each year.VIEW AWARD NOMINATION FORM
Employee Appreciation Week
The first Friday in March is National Employee Appreciation Day, and in celebration of our incredible employees, we celebrate all week long! Human Resources hosts daily events celebrating employees both on- and off-campus, ending in a campuswide Employee Appreciation Day party for everyone.
Years of Service Recognition
Each month, we recognize employees who are celebrating their one-, three- and five-year anniversaries. Our team makes a special delivery to the honorees that includes an anniversary pin designating their years of service and dedication.
Each fall semester, we honor employees who are celebrating their milestone anniversaries of 10 years and above in five-year increments. We host a massive celebration recognizing these employees for their hard work and commitment. Each honoree receives a special gift package along with their corresponding anniversary pin at the campuswide event.
Our team provides branded swag items as a way for supervisors to reward their employees who go above and beyond. The UCO Swag Closet is just another way to show appreciation for work that cannot be immediately recognized with raises or bonuses.
Employee Assistance Program
All faculty and staff have access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Deer Oaks. This benefit is available from day one of employment, through six months after separation, whether it is through voluntary or involuntary termination. The EAP provides free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, prevention and education services for you, dependents living at home or elsewhere and anyone who lives in your household. All services are confidential.
Beyond mental health and well-being assistance, the program offers several resources to help maintain a healthy work-life balance. Anytime someone reaches out to the EAP, they connect with a specialist who can assist with a multitude of requests. Examples include finding child care, elder care, repair services and other local services. The EAP can also provide legal consultation, vacation planning and financial planning assistance. The perks to the EAP are quite robust, and we’re proud to offer our employees services that help them live life to the fullest.
Deer Oaks serves as our primary EAP provider, with The Hartford offering a secondary EAP.
Through generous gifts from employees and others, the UCO Cares Employee Relief Program is available to help employees with short-term financial assistance during unexpected and unavoidable financial hardships and emergencies.
Employees are eligible to apply for program funds due to many circumstances. Based on eligibility and the availability of funds within the program, financial assistance may be accessible to employees with at least six months of service.

How to Apply
If an emergency has exhausted an employee's financial resources, he or she may qualify for funds from the UCO Cares Employee Relief Program. Since some people may not feel comfortable asking for assistance, a co-worker may apply on behalf of an employee that could benefit from this program.
- Funeral and Travel: Up to $500.00
- Food, Clothing, Shelter: Up to $750.00
- Medical (Proof of insurance required): Up to $1,000.00
- Catastrophic Disaster: Up to $1,000.00
*The committee reserves the right to give more or less than requested depending on the funds available and nature of the hardship. An employee must demonstrate a separate and distinct need in order to be considered for a second disbursement within 24 months.
