Evidence of Student Learning Outcomes

The programmatic student learning outcomes are aligned with the NASPAA required competencies and designed to evaluate our effectiveness in the preparation of ethical, transformational leaders who creatively and analytically inform public dialogue and manage policy through collaborative action.   Graduates are prepared for careers in government, nonprofit organizations, and other public service fields. 

Competencies/Student Learning Outcomes

Universal Competency #1 – To lead and manage in public governance

  • SLO - UCO MPA graduates recognize and apply appropriate theoretical frameworks to the practice of leadership and management.

Universal Competency #2 –To participate in and contribute to the public policy process

  • SLO - UCO MPA graduates engage key stakeholders in the public policy process through the proper employment of data-driven strategies to navigate public policy and administrative environments.

Universal Competency #3 – To analyze, synthesize, think critically, solve problems, and make decisions

  • SLO - UCO MPA graduates employ proper decision making using critical thought to manage and solve dynamic and evolving public policy and administrative issues.

Universal Competency #4 – To apply and articulate a public service perspective

  • SLO - UCO MPA graduates develop, analyze and implement resources professionally and in partnership with communities in order to ethically manage or solve complex challenges in the public interest.

Universal Competency #5 – To communicate and interact productively with a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry

  • SLO - UCO MPA graduates professionally and effectively communicate, both written and orally, and through informal and formal interactions in diverse work environments and communities.
