Kaleidoscope Dance
The Kaleidoscope Dance Company is the University of Central Oklahoma’s touring dance company. The company seeks to enliven, entertain and educate audiences with its varied repertoire of modern dance, ballet, jazz, aerial and theatre dance. In addition to two annual concerts at UCO, the company performs annually at the American College Dance Festival, other regional festivals and has performed for over 80,000 elementary and high school students in Oklahoma as part of its arts outreach program. The Kaleidoscope Dance Company was selected to perform at the National American College Dance Festival held at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in May of 2002 and June of 2004. Additionally, the company has performed in New York City, NY, Newfoundland, Canada, and Seoul, Korea. The company continues to expand its repertoire with new works by guest artists, faculty and students and each year invites two to three nationally renowned artists to set works and teach master classes at the university. Recent guest artists include Larry Keigwin, Leah Cox, Noa Shiloh, Mike Esperanza, Adam Parson, 10 Hairy Legs, Kellie St. Pierre and Leandro “Engine” Damasco of Diavolo Dance Theatre. The Kaleidoscope Dancers Company fosters the unique talents and creative voices of each company member and invites audiences to share the world of movement and experience the art of dance.
Kaleidoscope Dance 2
KD2 is an apprentice company for students in the Department of Dance and open to students across campus who are interested in dance performance. Company members meet four days a week and are in engaged in a full company experience including company class, auditions for guest works, performances, and the opportunity to choreograph. Recent performances include the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts, the Oklahoma High School Dance Festival, “Alice” in collaboration with the Department of Theatre, and in the UCO Department of Dance Kaleidoscope Dance Concerts.
