In order to best prepare students for their future careers, the Donna Nigh Department of Advanced Professional and Special Services offers student organizations to provide additional transformative learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting. For more information about an organization, please contact the faculty adviser.

Student Council for Exceptional Children

The Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) provides many opportunities for student leadership, research and career preparation in the area of Special Education. Campus activities for children with disabilities, as well as community functions, provide opportunities to meet professionals in the field and to attend local, state, regional and national conferences.

Student Speech Language Hearing Association

An opportunity for enrichment activity is provided through the Sigma Alpha Eta/National Student Speech Language Hearing Association's student chapter. The chapter hosts social events throughout the year, including a welcoming luncheon for new majors in the fall semester and a winter holiday dinner.  The student chapter also plans, organizes, and executes a professional conference each spring semester. In consultation with faculty advisors, students identify topics and speakers, coordinate space and materials, and promote the conference to professionals in the region. Although chapter officers are typically graduate students, they solicit and welcome the involvement of undergraduate students as well.
