Since UCO’s beginnings in 1890 as a teacher preparation institution, the College of Education and Professional Studies has diversified its efforts in meeting the needs of the Oklahoma City metro community. Our college is home to a wide array of programs including teacher education preparation as well as professional studies programs including Psychology, Kinesiology, Occupational Safety, Fashion Marketing, Dietetics and Food Management and many more. 

Vision: 

A diverse learning community composed of knowledgeable and caring professionals committed to empowering individuals so they may be knowledgeable, creative and ethical as they contribute to the dynamic global society.

Mission:

Our mission is facilitating the development of individuals and delivering programs and services to meet the needs of the professional communities served by the college.

Goals:

  • Involve students in transformative learning experiences related to discipline knowledge, research, creative & scholarly activities, leadership, service learning, civic engagement, global & cultural competencies, and health & wellness.
  • Develop partnerships, collaborations, and other opportunities to meet identified and unmet community needs.
  • Enhance programs that serve identified needs in the Metropolitan Oklahoma City communities.
  • Develop delivery models that maximize access to various student populations.

Accreditation in higher education is a voluntary, non-governmental peer-review process that works to ensure academic quality, institutional accountability, and improvement in student learning. College Tenure and Promotion Standards for Faculty:

The College of Education and Professional Studies' Tenure and Promotion guidelines follow UCO policy (Appendix E in the Faculty Handbook). Tenure and Promotion distinctions are earned by a faculty member for making significant contributions to the university, the college, the department, and the profession. The College is committed to supporting the University’s mission of helping students learn by providing transformative education experiences so that they may become productive, creative, ethical and engaged citizens and leaders serving our global community.
