Entry Security

Your safety and that of your families is our most important consideration for the upcoming commencement ceremonies. Like other universities across the country, UCO will implement enhanced screening of graduates and all others entering Hamilton Field House for each ceremony this spring. Every person entering the facility will be screened by security personnel using walk-through metal detectors. This process will create only small delays and will greatly enhance security and safety for everyone.

In addition, we will implement a clear bag policy. Any bags or carriers must be clear plastic and be no larger than 12” x 6” x 12". The only exception to this is allowance of small clutch purses no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” and bags necessary for medical equipment. All bags will be individually inspected by security personnel. Prohibited items include:

  • Firearms or other weapons (firearms are not permitted on campus pursuant to state law);
  • Alcohol (in all forms);
  • Bags, backpacks, fanny packs or any form of bag/purse that is not clear and within the size limitations;
  • Banners and signs;
  • Bagged or wrapped graduation gifts (please keep these in your car until after the ceremony);
  • Balloons; and,
  • Camera bags (please use a clear bag to bring these items into the facility).

Please convey this information to your family and friends that are planning to attend the ceremony.

During the Ceremony

  • As a courtesy in maintaining the dignity of this formal ceremony, guests and graduates should remain in Hamilton Field House until commencement is formally concluded with the Recessional. Ceremony will last approximately 1.5 hours.
  • The use of personal cameras and video equipment will be allowed to the extent that they do not obstruct viewing and that consideration is made for others in the audience. Cameras will not be allowed on the floor of the field house or by the stage. Professional photographers will take photos of each graduate, which will be available for purchase.
  • TV monitors and extra seating will be available in the lobby.
  • Turn all cell phones and pagers to silent before entering Hamilton Field House.
  • A printed commencement program will be available for each graduate at his or her designated seat on the Hamilton Field House floor.
