Waitlists offer students an opportunity to get in an electronic line for a possible opening in a closed class, and if a seat is offered, enroll from home without coming to UCO.

How Waitlists Work

Once a CRN/class fills up and closes, students may add their names to the waitlist, if one is offered for the course. Whether or not a class has a waitlist is determined by the department offering the course and not all courses can support a waitlist. Courses that have a waitlist are designated by values greater than 0 in the waitlist columns on the "Look Up Classes to Add" web page on UCONNECT. The column headings are WL Cap (waitlist capacity); WL Act. (current students on the waitlist) and WL Rem, (waitlist slots remaining) and appear just to the left of the Instructor column.

If a course has a waitlist, and a student currently enrolled drops that course or the department raises the class limit, the next eligible student on the waitlist is notified ONLY by an email sent to their UCO email address. The email will inform the student a seat is now open, and give the student a specific length of time (usually 24 hours, but only 12 hours during the last week of enrollment) in which to go on to UCONNECT and register in the course. If the student does not register within that time period, their name is removed from the waitlist, and the next eligible student is notified.

Please note: Being waitlisted in a course does not guarantee you'll eventually get a seat.   Departments can remove or close waitlists or remove students from the waitlist as they choose.

Waitlist Rules

  1. Not all courses will have a waitlist.
  2. Students cannot be added to a waitlist until the course is closed. Students will not be added to a waitlist in anticipation that the course will be closed when their enrollment time slot comes up.
  3. All holds, prerequisites and other registration restrictions are checked and must be met or cleared before a student is allowed to enter the waitlist. Plan ahead: most holds cannot be cleared outside of normal UCO working hours, and if you can't clear the hold, you may lose your slot and have to start over.
  4. Please note: Being waitlisted in a course does not guarantee you'll eventually get a seat. Departments can remove or close waitlists or remove students from the waitlist as they choose.
  5. Departments can set priorities for their waitlist, and the order in which students are processed from the waitlist may not be the same order in which they entered the waitlist.  In other words, a business major may have enrollment priority on a business course waitlist over a science major even though the science major signed up for the waitlist first.
  6. The time limit by which students must change their enrollment from the waitlist to registered may vary from course to course depending upon the needs of the department, and possibly upon the time of the year.  For instance, Biology may wish to allow students 36 hours to respond, while Management may allow 48 hours, or during the last week of enrollment, the time limit may be dropped to 12 hours.
  7. Please note: The deadline for almost all course is 24 hours. That is a very short time window. If you are waitlisted for a course which you think may open, please be prepared to monitor your UCO email account frequently.
  8. No exceptions will be made for students who do not register for the class within the time period stated in the notification email. Students signing up on a waitlist must pay close attention to their email account. "No exceptions" includes the following: a)  UCONNECT is not available, or b) the student was out of town on an emergency; or c) the student's computer crashed; or d)  Oklahoma ice storms, or e)  the student never received the email.
