What is the Extended Classroom?

The Extended Classroom is a section of an in-person class with virtual seats. Those enrolled in the extended classroom meet at the same days and times (synchronous) as the in-person class with the same instructor.

How do I know if an in-person class has an Extended Classroom option?

Follow the steps to see if the in-person class has an Extended Classroom option offered. If there is not a paired section, then the Extended Classroom has not been offered for that specific course. 

How do I enroll in an Extended Classroom section?

What is the cost comparison between an in-person section and an Extended Classroom section?

The price for the in-person and Extended Classroom is the same.

Why are there Extended Classroom and in-person course sections?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UCO is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for in-person classroom instruction, including recommendations for social distancing. This means the number of in-person seats must be reduced. Additionally, some students do not want to attend in-person classes during the pandemic, and the Extended Classroom provides a virtual option.

I was enrolled in an in-person section but want to change to the Extended Classroom section. How do I complete this?

Now that I’m enrolled in the Extended Classroom, how do I access the course?

You access the Extended Classroom course through D2L via UCONNECT just as you do all other courses. As the beginning of the semester approaches, the university will provide more detailed instructions.

Now that I’m enrolled in the digital seat, how do I contact the professor?

You can contact the professor via their personal email (you can look it up via the UCO Directory on the homepage) or through your class (D2L). Learn more about Connecting to Extended Class Sessions.

What technology platform will be used for Extended Classrooms?

A: The new technology deployed will be able to be used on any of more popular tools such as Zoom, WebEx meetings, or Microsoft Teams. It will be up to the instructor to decide which one to use.

I have a registration hold that prohibits me from making changes in UCONNECT. How do I make registration changes?

Because of the registration hold on your account, you must complete the Add/Drop form to be manually enrolled.

Will I need the same book/supplies for the digital seat as I need for the in-person section?

Yes, you are essentially part of that same in-person class, so you will need the same books/supplies.

I started the semester in the in-person section but now want to move to the Extended Classroom section. Is that an option?

With the instructor’s permission, you won’t officially move/enroll into the Extended Classroom section, but you can participate in the same virtual format as other Extended Classroom students.

I started the semester in the digital-seat section but now want to move to the in-person section. Is that an option?

No, you will not be allowed to move into the in-person section after the regular add/drop period.
