UCO to Host In-Person Commencement for Spring 2021 Graduates
The University of Central Oklahoma is excited to announce a return to in-person commencement ceremonies. The university will celebrate Spring 2021 graduates May 7–9, 2021, in Hamilton Field House on the UCO campus. Spring, summer and fall 2020 graduates are also invited to be recognized at the ceremonies.
As Oklahoma experiences declining cases and is among the states leading the nation in vaccine distribution, we are encouraged that we can celebrate this important day in a student's academic journey in person. The commitment and diligence to COVID-19 protocols by all members of the Central community are a significant part of why we can make this announcement.
The current plan is to have no guests or faculty present to allow for social distancing; however, the university will livestream the ceremonies for others to view online. Graduates who want to participate in commencement ceremonies are required to register in advance. No student will be admitted without registration. Face masks will be required for all in attendance.
The plan to hold in-person commencement ceremonies is contingent on conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic closer to May 2021. The university will continue to follow guidance and directives from local and state officials, public health experts and the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education on how to safely celebrate our graduates.
Further details, including how and when to register to attend, will be communicated via UCO email in the coming weeks. For inquiries, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Central is preparing to have COVID-19 protocols in place for each of its in-person graduation ceremonies. Every event will require a mask to be worn by all participants. Entry will be denied without a mask.
To accommodate physical distancing and other public health guidelines, some modifications to the ceremony may be necessary.
Protocols will include:
- Physically distanced seating for students
- No guests or faculty in attendance
- Students will be recognized individually as they walk in front of the stage but will not participate in the traditional handshake with Institutional leadership or be hooded by their advisor.
- Face coverings that cover the nose and mouth must be worn the entire time inside the Hamilton Field House. Students will not be allowed to remove their mask as they cross in front of the stage.
Congratulations to all of our graduates!
Graduation is an important milestone in the lives of students and their families. More than 300 UCO staff and faculty volunteer their time to make every commencement ceremony special for each graduate. Our goal is to make the experience as stress-free and safe for all of our graduating students and those in attendance.Herff Jones website.
