The Undergraduate Research Abroad Grant Program supports UCO faculty and students conducting research, creative, and scholarly activities abroad. Each grant is awarded to a team comprised of one UCO faculty instructor and up to four students. (Teams that apply must be comprised of at least the faculty instructor and two students. The total number of applicants must not exceed five people.) Undergraduate and graduate students may apply, but at least one student applicant on the application must be an undergraduate student.

Preference will be given to projects conducted at, or in partnership with, one of UCO’s partner institutions outside of the United States. The list of UCO international partners can be found by contacting the Office of Global Affairs (international@uco.edu).

Applications will be considered for projects conducted at, or in partnership with, other foreign institutions, that are not currently partners of UCO.

Grants will be awarded to the faculty instructor and up to four students and will include:

  • One $6,000 materials award for the group;
  • Research assistantships for the fall and spring semesters. One assistantship will be awarded for each UCO student listed on the project application and participating in the research, creative, or scholarly activity abroad; and,
  • Tuition fee waivers for the fall and spring semesters for each UCO student listed on the project application and participating in the research, creative, or scholarly activity abroad.

The $6,000 materials award may be used to cover the following expenses:

  • Airfare;
  • Housing;
  • Per Diem;
  • Transportation; or,
  • Supplies related to research.

The materials award does not cover costs associated with sightseeing, entertainment, study tour course fees, etc.

The materials award will be administered by the Office of High-Impact Practices (OHIP), and awardees will work with OHIP and the UCO Travel Office to ensure university and state guidelines are followed when making purchases.
