Why Tobacco Free?
"A cleaner environment!"
Erin, Secondary Education Major
The journey to becoming a tobacco-free campus began in 2005. In May 2009, President W. Roger Webb announced UCO would become tobacco-free effective July 1, 2010. Webb's announcement came after a vote of the UCO Student Association (UCOSA) in support of a tobacco-free campus. Our comprehensive tobacco-control program consists of prevention, cessation and policy.
The tobacco-free policy is the result of a collaborative approach to policy development and health promotion efforts. Support was generated by UCOSA, the Healthy Campus Initiative, Administration, Community Health Club and other campus and community partners.
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the tobacco-free policy was revised by Central's Administrative Services to include e-cigarettes and other vapor products. This was done in accordance with Gov. Mary Fallin's signing of Executive Order No. 2013-43 prohibiting the use of these products on all state property.
The University of Central Oklahoma is committed to providing its students, employees, and visitors a safe and healthy environment. UCO strives to promote a campus culture of civic and individual wellness.
Thank you for making UCO tobacco-free.
