The UCO Sailing Team co-hosted the Kilpatrick Regatta with the Oklahoma City University Sailing Team on Saturday October 8. This regatta was sailed on Lake Carl Blackwell in Stillwater, due to the low water levels at our normal sailing venue on Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. UCO overcame adversities in the forms of capsizes and breakdowns during races in the strong, gusty winds to capture their second regatta win in as many outings. The racing was very close and when the regatta ended, UCO was tied with OCU, but UCO prevailed in the second tie-breaker for the win. Every team member contributed to the overall victory and our newest team members learned much from the heavy air experience. Weather conditions rapidly deteriorated during mid-afternoon and approaching rainstorms forced an early end to the regatta. After getting the boats properly stored and sails folded, just before the storms rolled in, the teams met at a local restaurant to eat supper and exchange stories before heading back home. The UCO Sailing Team travels to Waco next weekend to compete in Baylor's Ensey Regatta and College Station at the end of October to race in Texas A&M's Aggie Fall Regatta.
