Instructional Programs

Instructional programs are non-credit fitness classes that provide personal enrichment, training and skill building, and are intensive in nature.  The instructors are certified within their discipline and have many years of experience teaching.

Instructional programs are available to all UCO students and employees, as well as the general public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age or older to participate.

Fall 2014 Programs

Krav Maga

Krav Maga is the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, now utilized by law enforcement agencies, military personnel, and the average citizen looking to learn practical self-defense and get in shape.  Krav Maga emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios that will strengthen your body, sharpen your mind, and transform your life.

Days/Times: Mondays, 7:15-9:15 p.m.

S.A.S. 

Strengthen, Affirm and Stretch in this workout that feels good to the body! You will strengthen every major muscle group using a variety of resistance tools (i.e. bands, weights, your own body weight, balls) in a positive environment that helps you connect the mind and body via affirmations, awareness and stretching utilizing Yoga/Pilates and mind-body relaxation tools.  Experience fitness in a way that will make you crave more!

Days/Times: Mondays 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Bellydancing

This class is created for individuals who are coming to learn bellydance for the very first time. This structured and easy to follow class is perfect for students to get to know the basics of belly dance. Each week, a new movement is introduced and drilled, building on and incorporating elements from the prior weeks. Particular focus is given to developing correct posture alignment, flexibility, arm positions and paths, fundamental shimmies, basic hip accents, introductory undulations, easy to follow travelling steps and combinations. No dance experience necessary.

Days/Times: Sundays, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Eras of Dance: Hip-hop from yesterday and today

Take a trip through time and master hip-hop dancing from various eras. There is no partner or previous experience needed.
