Instructional Programs

Instructional programs are non-credit fitness classes that provide personal enrichment, training and skill building, and are intensive in nature.  The instructors are certified within their discipline and have many years of experience teaching.

Instructional programs are available to all UCO students and employees, as well as the general public. Participants must be at least 18 years of age or older to participate.

Fall 2013 Programs

Barre Fusion

This total body program combines the disciplines of ballet, yoga, and Pilates, focusing on improving balance, stability, and core strength.  Utilizing the ballet barre, the fusion of these exercises will strengthen, lengthen, and tone the whole body. 

Days/Times: Wednesdays 4-4:50 p.m.

Chi Gong, Tai Chi, and Aikido    

Experience mindfulness and stress management through the ancient martial arts of Chi Gong, Tai Chi, and Aikido.  Tai Chi will explore a modification of a traditional Yang style form that focuses on bilateral development.  Chi Gong exercises will aid in breath control and flexibility.  Aikido presents another way of approaching the conflicts encountered in daily life.  This low impact exercise program will help participants achieve a balanced state of well-being. 

Days/Times: Mondays 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Jiu-jitsu

Jiu-jitsu is a form of martial arts that works to develop efficient, flowing, and circular movements for defense. The Jiu-jitsu system practices techniques aimed at manipulating the opponent's force against himself rather than confronting it with one's own force. The Art of Jiu-jitsu uses grappling techniques, pins, joint locks, and throws to neutralize the opponent.

Days/Times: Mondays 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Eras of Dance: 1920's to Today

Take a trip through time and master social dancing of various eras--from the speakeasy and swing of the jazz age to today's line dances and hip-hop. This six-week class will explore the influence of pop culture on dance, while providing an excellent cardio workout. There is no partner or previous experience needed.

The Eras of Dance class is brought to you by the UCO Wellness Center, along with Teaze Dance & Fitness, Oklahoma's original sultry studio of dance.

Days/Times: Sundays from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
