UCO Health Promotion

Health & Wellness

The World Health Organization defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." UCO recognizes six different dimensions of optimal health, with those being:

  • Physical
  • Spiritual
  • Environmental
  • Emotional
  • Intellectual
  • Social/Interpersonal

Health Promotion

Health promotion is the process of empowering individuals and communities to change their lifestyle and move toward a state of optimal health. The emphasis of health promotion goes beyond individual behavior and moves toward an ecological approach that focuses on the various factors that impact one's health.

Health Promotion at UCO

At UCO, we recognize that health and learning are interconnected.  Therefore, health promotion on campus exists to support students and create healthy environments that will foster the learning process. The health promotion team is comprised of students, faculty and staff, professionals, and community partners supporting a healthy campus for UCO. Specifically, health promotion efforts can include:

  • Education and training
