Turning Technologies Student Response System (Clickers)

A student response system, also known as clickers, is a great tool for supporting active learning in your classes.  Used effectively, clickers can increase engagement and deepen learning for all students.  A student response system allows an instructor to ask a question in class and instantly receive a response from every student.  The students' responses can then be displayed as a chart or other format.  In addition, instructors can generate a variety of reports on question responses.  Clicker-based questions can be used for fostering discussion or even for conducting quizzes and exams that are automatically graded.

Turning Technologies is the official and supported student response system solution at Central.

Getting Started


Does Turning Technologies work with D2L?

Yes!  You can download your D2L class lists directly into the TurningPoint software to auto-create participant lists.  You can also publish session results back into the D2L course gradebook.

How much does it cost to implement the Turning Technologies system?

The Turning Technologies system is funded through student purchase of a ResponseCard or ResponseWare license.  When the instructor adopts Turning Technologies for one or more courses, an instructor kit is provided at no cost, which includes the USB receiver, TurningPoint software, ResponseCard for testing, PresenterCard, and user guides.

Do students have to purchase a clicker, or can they respond to class questions with a phone or laptop?

The Turning Technologies ResponseWare feature allows students to respond from any web-enabled device, such as a laptop, smart phone, or tablet.  In addition, there is a ResponseWare app available for iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®, BlackBerry® smartphone or Android™ devices.  For more information, see the Turning Technologies ResponseWare website.

Is assistance available for using this system in my course?

The Technology Resource Center provides a full array of support and assistance options to help faculty effectively implement the Turning Technologies system.  In addition to 1 on 1 and in-class training, TRC staff will also work with you individually to determine strategies for utilizing the Turning Tech system to accomplish your specific instructional goals.
