Password Incident

Letter to the Community

March 7, 2014

The University of Central Oklahoma has discovered a potential compromise of the university’s UCONNECT web page.  Our technicians have found that a limited number of user accounts has recently experienced unauthorized password changes.

These users are being directly notified because their UCONNECT account had a password reset that fell within the parameters of this investigation.  Although we have no evidence that an unauthorized user has actually retrieved and is manipulating personal information, we are bringing this incident to your attention so that you can be on alert to signs of any possible misuse of your personal identity.

While it appears that the UCO database has not been compromised, the university is concerned that with access to UCONNECT, an unauthorized user could view alternate e-mail addresses, financial aid records, grades, and other information.  In addition, your UCO e-mail account may be accessed.

The university will not ask you for account information nor usernames and passwords.  There are additional steps you can take to protect yourself.

The university is working diligently to address challenges caused by this incident. As the situation develops, we will provide additional information regarding further actions or precautions that you should take. Please visit If you have additional concerns, please visit the IT Service Desk in the Max Chambers Library.

We regret any inconvenience this incident presents to you and will continue to keep you informed.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to investigate this offense.
