The purpose of the conference is to recognize that the work of the forefathers within the Black community has not been done in vain.  The goal of the conference is to stress to student-leaders that they cannot be satisfied with the present situation of the African American community within the United States, as well as within the world as a whole.  Overall, the conference will re-awake the same drive and determination within students to mirror that of the most influential and historical Black leaders in order to create positive, sustainable change.

Black History Month Kickoff

Join us as we kick off this illustrious month of Black History Month with guest speaker, A. Byron Coleman III.  He is the Pastor of the 5th Street Baptist Church, Chaplain of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Adjunct Professor in the African & African American Studies Department at the University of Oklahoma.  During the kickoff, we will discuss the state of African-Americans and their role in Higher Education, the legacy of Nelson Mandela and ways African-Americans can fulfill the purpose of their ancestors.

Greenwood Cultural Center

Do you want to go on a field trip?  Sign up and prepare for a day-trip to Tulsa as we explore the Greenwood Cultural Center and its grand business district.  Students will be able to learn about the Tulsa Race Riots, “Black” Wall Street and the ways the city is redeveloping North Tulsa.  Space is limited, but the trip is free.  Sign-up sheets will be available in the Office of Diversity Inclusion (Nigh University Center, Room 211).

Time: Students will be departing from UCO at 9 a.m.  We will return the same day around 5 p.m.
