University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) students are permitted to take departmental-approved exams for institutional credit in courses that are offered on campus. Departmental exams are equivalent to a comprehensive final examination, and may include a combination of the following tests: objective, essay, and/or performance.
Departmental exams normally test the course content of the UCO class. The content comes from adopted texts and references used in similar courses taught at the college level. Students are strongly recommended to consult with an academic advisor to determine if a departmental exam is right for them. In some instances, students may be required to complete an application for testing which must be approved by the appropriate Department Chairperson. The exam must be taken within thirty days of obtaining the chairperson's signature.
A student may not test out of a course in which he or she is currently enrolled. Credit will be recorded with a neutral grade of P (pass) if the student earns a passing score. No grade is recorded if the student fails the exam. If the student does not pass the exam and wishes to retake it, they may do so after six months.
The fee for the exam is non-refundable and is payable online only. To register, see the price of the exam, or see a list of the exams offered, click the "Register" button and select "Departmental Exams" from the list of available exams.
Most departmental exams are administered at the Testing Center by appointment. After the fee has been paid, please call 405.974.2388 at least 24 business hours in advance to schedule an appointment. If an exam is not listed, please contact the appropriate department to find out whether or not it is available for administration.
