Extra-institutional credit can be obtained through CLEP and DSST examinations. Testing Services administers most CLEP/DSST exams, however, only a select number of CLEP/DSST exams are accepted by the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Many of these exams are transferable to institutions that will accept them.
These extra-institutional examinations are only available for undergraduate credit. Credit earned by examination will not appear on the transcript until the student has successfully completed twelve or more semester credit hours of academic work at UCO.
A student may not test out of a course in which he or she is currently enrolled. Credit will be recorded with a neutral grade of P (pass) if the student earns a passing score. No grade is recorded if the student fails the exam. A failed DSST test may be repeated after six months has elapsed. A failed CLEP test may be repeated after three months has elapsed.
For CLEP language essays: After taking the computer-based portion of the exam, a student may pay the CLEP language essay fee on our website and then call Testing Services to schedule an appointment. Foreign Language essays and College Composition Modular essays are UCO specific and will be graded by their respective UCO departments.
For more information related to specific exams or to purchase study materials, please visit the CLEP and DSST websites.
There are two non-refundable fees for each exam. One fee is paid to the testing company, and the other is UCO's proctoring fee. The proctoring fee is payable online only.
If you are taking the CLEP exam, the first fee will be paid on the College Board website. The second fee will be paid on the Testing Services website.
If you are taking the DSST, you must first pay the proctoring fee on our website for the DSST exam and then call 405.974.2388 at least 24 business hours in advance to schedule an appointment. You must bring your credit card the day of the exam in order pay the testing company fee, if required.
