I am the Coordinator of the University of Central Oklahoma, Office of International Services, Korean Office. I grew up in Marlow, Oklahoma population, 5,000. Yes, it was small, but I loved my hometown. And I mention it because some of you may be wondering if small town people can make it abroad. Well, the answer is yes! I attended the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in Interpersonal Communication and a minor in Leadership.
It was at UCO that I found my passion for other cultures. I attended many international events, made many friends, and learned so many new things. In my sophomore year, I received a job at the Office of International Services as the Student Assistant to the Executive Director. I was able, as a student, to work with recruiting agencies from all over the globe. I gained tremendous experience, when hosting delegations from around the world, in cultural manners and rules. During this time, I also completed my Certificate of Global Competency from the Centre for Global Competency (CGC).I was one of the first nine to receive this directly from the Provost, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Student Affairs.
My study abroad experience was in Korea and my experience was so transformative that I decided to return. After I graduated from UCO I came back to Korea to teach English and I now hold the position of the Coordinator of the Korean office. My passion is to help students have abroad experiences. I truly believe the skills learned and the character built while abroad are priceless and can only be attained there. I believe Korea is a wonderful place to learn those skills and I want to personally invite you to Korea and see what all the “buzz” is about!
