Study Tours

A study tour is a credit-bearing course in which the majority of the academic work is accomplished through group study and travel outside the UCO campus. It provides a group of students with an applied, supervised experience at an off campus location, whether foreign or domestic, for a minimum of two or more overnights, and enhances the student's classroom knowledge of an academic discipline(s) through first hand exposure. Once on site, travel during the study tour is an integral part of the learning process.

Students travel with three UCO German-speaking professors who know European arts, culture, and history inside and out.  “Two German Empires” focuses on over 2000 years from the age of ancient Romans and barbarian tribes through to the cosmopolitan Europe of today. Experience firsthand the imperial cities of Vienna, Prague, and Berlin! The basic cost covers airfare, hotels, breakfasts, ground transportation, site fees, admissions, and travel insurance. Comments: This study tour will introduce students to aspects of tropical field biology in Belize. Students will become familiar with the flora and fauna of Belize and will discover how hydrology, geography, history and culture in Belize have shaped these tropical ecosystems. Students will visit ancient Mayan ruins, explore cave systems, spend three days canoeing the Sibun river, and explore coral reefs. Most of the time will be spent in Belize. The trip will last 12 days including travel days. Prerequisite: 12 hours of biology or permission of instructor. For graduate credit, students must be graduate students with at least 12 hours of biology or permission of instructor.

In business, we will get to examine the power of China’s economic growth and export industries by visiting both traditional and modern factories and stores, including the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA) home to factories of most of the Fortune 500.
