Political Science Scholarships

The Carl H. Guild Jr. and Thomas E. Guild Scholarship

Scholarship Mission:  To provide valuable resources for students who aspire to attend law school.  Dr. Thomas E. Guild, the son of Carl H. Guild, Jr., was a member of the UCO faculty for more than 20 years and taught political science and legal studies.

Dr. Randall Jones Outstanding Political Science Student

Scholarship Mission:  To provide a scholarship for a Political Science major to recognize academic achievement, and contributions to the department, college and university.

Value and Duration:  The scholarship holds a value of $500 and is disbursed in the fall semester.

Qualifications:
* Must be a Political Science major
* Overall GPA will be considered in selection
* Overall hours enrolled will be considered in selection
* Poli Sci GPA and hours will be considered in selection

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Mr. Ben Odom.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Scholarship Packet must contain:

Political Science Paper Award

Provided by Political Science Department Program Support Fund

Award Mission:  This award provides money to recognize the winner of Political Science paper submissions.  There will be a Graduate and Undergraduate paper winner.  Winners will be the department’s representative for the Oklahoma Political Science Association Paper Award competitions in the fall.

Value and Duration:  The value of this award is determined by the funds available and will be disbursed based on individual graduation status.

Qualifications: 
* Must be a Political Science major
* Must submit a scholarly paper from a political science class

Essay Requirements:  The paper needs to have been written for a political science class at UCO within the last two semesters (Spring & Fall). Paper submitted must have a cover sheet stating the title, class in which it was submitted and professor’s name.  No student name or other identification should be on the paper or coversheet.

The Professor Leroy Crozier Internship Scholarship in Political Science

Scholarship Mission:  To provide a scholarship to Political Science students who are participating in a university approved internship. 

Value and Duration:  The value of the scholarship is based on the actual number of credit hours to be completed during the internship.  The scholarship will hold a value of $750/credit hour with a maximum of $2250 to be disbursed in the fall as funds are available. 

Qualifications: 

* Must be a Political Science major
* Must have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in the discipline and a minimum of 3.0 GPA overall
* Must be currently enrolled at UCO
* Must be junior or senior status at the time of application or provide proof of in-progress hours toward obtaining status
* Applicants and desired internship opportunity must have been vetted by the Political Science internship coordinator prior to application for the scholarship
* Applicant should attach a description of the internship including the number of hours to be completed, desired learning outcomes, organization at which the internship will be completed, internship responsibilities, etc.

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the scholarship donors.   This letter must be delivered before May 1, 2013 to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN:  Terri Winblad, Scholarship Coordinator.

Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society Award

Award Mission:  To provide an award to an outstanding member of Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.  This award is available to an undergraduate or graduate student. 

Value and Duration:  The value of the award is $100.  One award will be disbursed in the Spring and one award in the Fall. 

Qualifications:
* Must be a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society
* Must submit a 100-word (approx.) essay on your contributions to Pi Sigma Alpha
* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA in Poli Sci courses
* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA overall

Requirements:   The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Scholarship Donors.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Scholarship/Award Mission:  Each of the scholarships/awards mentioned are awarded to Political Science majors who exemplify high academic achievement in their specific area of study and class standing.

Value and Duration:  The value of each scholarship/award is based on the funds available and is disbursed according to the individual graduation status.

Qualifications: 
* Must be a Political Science Graduate student with a declared area of study matching the scholarship/award title description.
* Must show strong academic performance as measured by overall GPA and Political Science GPA

Scholarship Mission:  The purpose of this scholarship is to provide help to a student who has transferred in to UCO from another institution and is a declared Political Science major.

Value and Duration:  The value of this scholarship is determined by the funds available and will be disbursed based on individual graduation status.

Qualifications:
* Must be an undergraduate transfer student
* Must be a declared Political Science major
* GPA and Political Science course load will be considered

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Scholarship Donors.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Dr. James Caster Scholarship in Legal Studies

Scholarship Mission:  The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. James Caster and is intended to aid a Political Science major who plans to attend Law School.

Value and Duration:  The value of the scholarship is $500 and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.

Requirements:  The recipient will be expected to write a letter of thanks to Mr. Ben Odom.  This letter must be received before scholarship disbursement will be processed.  The letter should be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Office (LAR104) to the attention of Terri Winblad, Scholarship coordinator.

Qualifications:  The recipient will meet the following criteria:
*Must be a Political Science major
*Must be a full-time student returning in the Fall semester
*Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall
*Must provide a 2 page essay describing financial need and intent to pursue a Law degree.
*Must have current FAFSA on file at the UCO Office of Financial Aid.
