Study Abroad Scholarship

Scholarships are available from the Liberal Arts College to help with the cost of study tours or study abroad. Application information is usually available from the LA dean's office in mid to late January. Please check the Liberal Arts College homepage in January for posted information, or call the LA dean's office at 974-2602.

Future Teacher Scholarship

Gilman Scholarship Information

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.

Pandora Everett Scholarship in Spanish Language Education

Scholarship Mission:  The scholarship is provided to address the demand for Spanish Language Teachers and is awarded to a student with a declared major in Spanish Education.

Value and Duration:  This is a $1500 scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year and is disbursed in the Fall/Spring semester in equal amounts of $750 each semester.

Qualifications: 
* Must be a declared Spanish Education major
* Must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.5
* Must attach a 1-page letter outlining financial need
* Must submit a letter documenting a commitment to civic and educational affairs of the community

Requirements:  This scholarship requires that the recipient complete additional documents provided by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation as well as the College application.  The recipient is asked to write a letter of thanks to Everett Family Trust which has made this scholarship available.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN:  Terri Winblad May 1, 2013.

Scholarship Packet must contain:

  • Resume
  • Current transcript
  • Documentation of civic and educational activities
  • One page letter outlining financial need

Outstanding French Student, Outstanding German Student, Outstanding Spanish Student
Funded by Modern Language Scholarships

Scholarship Mission:  These scholarships are awarded to students who show excellence in their language studies.

Value and Duration:  The value of each scholarship is variable, but typically a minimum $200 and is disbursed based on graduation status.

Qualifications: 
* Open to US residents and non-residents
* Must major or minor in Modern Language, Literature, or Cultural Studies
* Must have a GPA  of 3.0 or higher in the discipline with grades of A or B
* Should show club participation, club leadership, involvement in outreach events, or have plans for participation in a study tour

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Scholarship Donors. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad.

Cathy Stults Scholarship in French Studies

Scholarship Mission: This scholarship provides funds to support a student who is a French major or minor.

Value and Duration:  The value of this award is $500 and is disbursed in the fall semester.

Qualifications: 
* Must have a declared major or minor in French
* Must have 3.5 minimum GPA
* Must be active in French Club or the French speaking community
* Must present a letter of support from French faculty member
* Must continue to study French at UCO

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Mr. Ben Odom.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Samuel Henry and Elizabeth P. Mitchell Scholarship

Scholarship Mission:  The scholarship is awarded to recognize students of the Modern Languages Department who are accomplished in several languages.

Value and Duration:  The value of this scholarship will be determined by the funds available (generally above $250) and is disbursed in the fall semester.

Qualifications: 
* Must have a declared major or minor in a language
* Must have 3.5 minimum GPA
* Must be an active learner in more than one language

Requirements:  The recipient is asked to submit a letter of thanks to the donors before funds are disbursed.  This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad, Scholarship Coordinator before May 1, 2013.

4. Incoming Transfer Academic & Leadership Scholarship Opportunities

The admission application is good for both admission and scholarship consideration. For Spring 2011 scholarship consideration apply before November 1, 2011 OR Fall 2011 scholarship consideration apply before April 1, 2011. Scholarship deadlines and other requirements are strictly enforced.

5. UCO Meal Plan & Book Scholarship Award

Students may apply for either the Meal Plan or Book Scholarship but NOT both. The student applying must be enrolled full-time and have a FAFSA on file at UCO or must be a full-time, degree seeking international student. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. This application must be submitted to Student Financial Services, 141 Nigh University Center, by 5 pm August 15, 2011. Awards are for fall 2011 only.

7. Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships: Rotary International offers one-year, $27,000 scholarships for students who want to study abroad.  Applications for the 2012-13 Ambassadorial Scholarship are due April 1 for those applying through the downtown Rotary Club.  The scholarships are intended to help defray costs associated with round-trip transportation, tuition and other fees, room and board, and some educational supplies.  Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of college, or must have completed high school and been employed in a recognized vocation for at least two years.  Children and grandchildren of Rotarians are ineligible.  Application must be made through a local Rotary club in the applicant's legal or permanent residence or place of full-time study or employment.

8. Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST):  The Oklahoma City Chapter of Executive Women International awards scholarships each year to adult students in transition (ASIST).  Eligible applicants must live in Canadian, Cleveland, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma or Pottawatomie counties and must be at least 18 years of age.

Deadline:  The deadline for submission in February 28, 2011.  Scholarship recipients and financial aid counselors will be notified by March 30, 2011.

9. Association on American Indian Affairs:  Native American and Alaska Native students from federally recognized and non-recognized tribes are eligible to apply.  All students must be enrolled full time, seeking a minimum of an Associate's degree at an accredited institution, be enrolled in their tribe and meet the additional criteria listed.

Deadline:  Applications will be accepted between April 4 - June 13 ONLY.

10. Institute of Hope Scholarship:  This scholarship was developed to provide emergency funding to aid students who are caught in situations of prejudice, poverty or abuse. Applicants must be able to show financial need and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours. Students should be able to explain lack of access to traditional financial aid funding.

Deadline:  One week prior to the start of the semester to which the funds will be applied.

11. Jaycee Foundation of Oklahoma, Inc.-Non-Traditional Student Scholarship: The Jaycee Foundation of Oklahoma is honored to present scholarships to selected secondary or non-typical students.  Both traditional and non-traditional students are encouraged to apply.  Award recipients will be announced on April 16, 2011.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a U. S. citizen and a resident of Oklahoma.

12. McNair Scholars Program:  Scholarship program is designed to prepare students for careers as graduate students, professors or professional researchers.  Must be full time student, with 42 hours or more completed, 3.0 GPA & first generation college student or student from an underrepresented ethnic group.
