College of Liberal Arts Scholarships 

Scholarship Applications for 2014-2015 are Now Closed 

 

The College of Liberal Arts wants to thank all of our students for applying for the 2014-2015 scholarships and awards. Applications are now being reviewed by committees and all students who applied will be notified via email no later than April 1st.  

 

Scholarship and award recipients are asked to attend the College of Liberal Arts Donor/Student Luncheon from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11th. The student awards will be handed out later that day from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. More information will be provided when students are notified by email.

 Dean Pamela Washington Scholarship for Liberal Arts Outstanding Sophomore

  • Must be declared Liberal Arts major with more than 45 hours but less than 60 hours completed.
  • Must have a minimum of 3.5 GPA to apply.
  • A full-time student in good standing.
  • Student must provide a résumé with evidence of leadership on campus.  
  • Must have at least one letter of recommendation from a Liberal Arts faculty member.
  • Must provide an official transcript.

Student will receive $3000 for the year $1,500 for the fall semester and $1,500 for the spring semester if 3.5 GPA is maintained.

Barnes & Noble Liberal Arts Book Scholarship

Due date for all applications is December 4th 2013 at 5:00 p.m. The following must be completed for your application to be considered:

  • Completed Application
  • Transcript showing a declared major in a Liberal Arts discipline
  • Schedule of Classes
  • A faculty member signature
  • Attach a statement explaining why you need a book scholarship (up to 150 words)

Please turn in applications to Lauren Belflower, Scholarship Coordinator in the Liberal Arts Dean’s office.

Nathanial Martinez Scholarship

Scholarship Mission:  To provide a scholarship to a Liberal Arts major who is registered with Disability Services.

Value and Duration:  The scholarship holds a value of $1000 and will be disbursed in the following academic year.

Criteria:
* Must be registered with UCO Disability Services
* Must be a full-time undergraduate student
* Must be a Liberal Arts major
* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA

Requirements:   The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Mr. and Ms. Timothy Tillman. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Lauren B. Belflower before May 1, 2014.

The Finney Scholars Scholarship

Underwritten by gifts to the Finney Fund and to the Liberal Arts Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Mission:  To provide scholarships that recognize Liberal Art students who are identified as having a proven record of high academic achievement in their chosen major.

Value and Duration:  The value of the Finney Scholarships is determined by the funds available and is disbursed in the following academic year.

Criteria:  The selected recipients will meet the following criteria and may be required to submit additional documentation as required by the department.
* Must be a Liberal Arts major
* Must have a 3.5 GPA in the major and a 3.5 GPA overall
* Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing
* Must show practical evidence of excellence in the discipline as determined by the department (see additional requirements below)

Requirements:   The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Scholarship Donors. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Lauren B. Belflower before May 1, 2014.

Scholarship Packet Must Contain:

  • Cover Sheet
  • Application
  • Resume
  • Current transcript

Additional Requirements within Your Department:

  • Criminal Justice:  Criminal Justice GPA must be 3.5 or higher; committee may request further documentation which may include proof of excellence through CJ coursework or CJ activities
  • English:  Applicants must submit a 5-10 page critical or creative writing sample
  • History and Geography:  Contact Department office for additional requirements
  • Humanities and Philosophy:  Contact Department office for additional requirements
  • Mass Communication:  Applicant must submit a scholarly or creative piece which demonstrates excellence in major
  • Modern Language:  Applicant must submit a sample of academic writing for a course in the department
  • Political Science:  Contact Department office for additional requirements
  • Sociology/Substance Abuse Studies:  Applicants must submit a “writing sample” in the form of a paper done for a Sociology course

Scholarship Mission:  To provide a scholarship to an undergraduate student who represents leadership and community involvement.

Value and Duration:  The scholarship holds a value of $250 and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.

Criteria:
* Must be a full-time undergraduate
* Must be a Liberal Arts major
* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
* Must demonstrate community involvement

Requirements:   The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Greg Womack. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Lauren B. Belflower before May 1, 2014.

* Must be a full-time student
* Must be a College of Liberal Arts major
* Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
* Must have served at least one term as a president of a LA student organization president
* Must be a continuing student

* Must be serving 1st term as a LA student organization officer
* Must be a full-time student
* Must be a LA major
* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
* Must be a Sophomore

Requirements:   The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to UCO Corporate Partners. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Lauren B. Belflower before May 1, 2014.

Scholarship Mission:  The scholarship provides recognition to the outstanding efforts of a Liberal Arts Honor Society Officer.

Value and Duration:  The value of the scholarship will be determined by the funds available and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.

Criteria:
* Must be a LA major
* Must be a full-time student
* Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
* Must be a current Honor Society Officer

Requirements:  The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Liberal Arts Annual Fund Donors. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Lauren B. Belflower before May 1, 2014.

* Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
* Must demonstrate leadership qualities
