History and Geography Scholarships
The Building Traditions, Educating Generations-Museum Studies Awards
Scholarship Mission: To present two awards to students majoring in History-Museum Studies.
Value and Duration: The amount of each scholarship is $500.
Qualifications: The recipient must be enrolled with UCO as a full-time student who meets the following criteria:
*Must be a History-Museum Studies Major
*Available to Undergraduate or Graduate Student
*Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher
*Must show participation in any of the following: professional associations, conferences, seminars, internships, volunteer services, employment in museums and related organizations, presenting scholarly papers.
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Scholarship Donors. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Emeritus Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: The scholarship is awarded in honor of a retired or retiring professor of History and Geography. This year’s Emeritus Scholarship is in honor of Dr. Carolyn G. Pool, former Director of Museum Studies, who passed in 2012.
Value and Duration: The amount of scholarship will be determined by the funds available and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.
Qualifications: The recipient must be enrolled in UCO for the following Fall semester and meet the following criteria:
*Must be a history, geography, history museum studies or history education major
*Must have junior status (at least 60 hours) in the spring the award is announced. (must have 18 completed history, geography, and/or social studies hours; at least 6 of the 18 hours must be 3000 level courses or above.
* Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 with a GPA of 3.5 in major
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Various Donors and Selection Committee. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Everett Museum Studies Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: Reflecting Dr. Mark R. Everett’s appreciation for the visual arts, this scholarship recognizes a student who achieves in the classroom and who demonstrates capacity for excellence in the field of Museum Studies.
Value and Duration: The value is a $1500 scholarship for the academic year of 2012-2013 and is disbursed in the Fall/Spring semester in equal amounts of $750 each semester.
Qualifications: The recipient must be a graduate student in Museum Studies and fit the following criteria:
*Must show promise of professional excellence
*Must have a minimum 3.5 overall GPA.
* Attach a 1-page letter outlining financial need/status
*Must submit a research paper (10-12 pages)-a preference may be given to students who submit a paper pertaining to a collection of the UCO campus.
Requirements: This scholarship requires that the recipient complete additional documents provided by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation as well as the College application. The recipient is asked to write a letter of thanks to The Everett Family Trust which has made this scholarship available. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Dr. Stan Hoig Endowed Memorial Scholarship in History
Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for a UCO student who is a declared History Department major who submits a paper focusing on the American West.
Value and Duration: The value of the scholarship is determined by the funds available at the time of disbursement which will occur in the Fall semester.
Qualifications:
*Must major in History General, History Education, History Museum Studies or Geography
*Must submit UCO transcript and transcripts from any other universities attended
*Must submit a paper on the American West, including Oklahoma, American Indians or any other aspect of the region; the recipient must commit to submitting the paper for publication in the Chronicles of Oklahoma or other scholarly journal.
*Must be currently enrolled at UCO and be a returning student.
*Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the graduate program or 3.0 in the undergraduate program.
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Mrs. Patricia Hoig, donor of the scholarship, before funds will be disbursed. This letter can be delivered to Terri Winblad, Scholarship Coordinator in the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office (LAR 104).

John Osburn Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to History or Geography students who show outstanding achievement in academics and activities as it relates to their major.
Value and Duration: The value of this scholarship is $250 and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.
Qualifications: The applicant must meet the following criteria:
*Must be a full-time student at UCO
*Must be a History or Geography major (Undergraduate or Graduate)
*Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
*Must submit a 1-page essay discussing outstanding achievements in one of the following areas as it relates to the study of history or geography:
- Volunteer work
- Goals and aspirations
- Financial need
- Mentor influence
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Dr. T.H. Baughman. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.
Scholarship Packet must contain:

Pugh Family Pioneer in Geography Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship provides funds for a student whose major is Geography who holds a standing of sophomore or junior at UCO. The scholarship is open to US as well as International students.
Value and Duration: The value of the scholarship will be determined by the funds available and will be disbursed in the Fall/Spring semesters.
Qualifications: The recipient will be a sophomore or junior in the semester awarded who meets the following criteria:
*Must be a Geography major
*Open to US and International students
*Must provide a personal letter discussing background and influences in career choice
*Submit a letter stating financial need, documenting hours of employment and campus activities as they apply to Geography.
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Shirley Pugh who established the scholarship. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Kenneth Rees Scholarship in American History
Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for one History student whose course work shows an emphasis in American History.
Value and Duration: The value of the scholarship is determined by the funds available and is disbursed in the Fall semester.
Qualifications: The recipient must have an outstanding academic record and meet the following criteria:
* Must have completed at least 75 credit hours and is a History major
* Transcript must show an emphasis in American History
* Must provide 3 letters of recommendation-2 from professors, 1 from community member
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to Eloise Rees who established the scholarship. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

The David Webb Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship that is available to an undergraduate or graduate student who has financial need and shows academic promise.

Qualifications: The recipient will meet the following criteria:
*Must be a History or Geography Major
*Must be a full-time student at the time of disbursement
*Must demonstrate financial need and a promise of academic success through an essay
Requirements: The recipient will be asked to write a letter of thanks to the Scholarship Donors. This letter must be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN: Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

The Russ Goodno History Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: The scholarship is awarded to a History General or History Education major in honor of retired Professor of History Russ Goodno.
Value and Duration: The value of the scholarship is $500 and will be disbursed in the Fall semester.
Requirements: The recipient will be expected to write a letter of thanks to Mr. Ben Odom. This letter should be delivered to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office (LAR104) to the attention of the Scholarship Coordinator, Terri Winblad. The letter of thanks must be received before scholarship disbursement will be processed.
Qualifications: The recipient must be returning for the Fall semester and meet the following criteria:
*Must be a History General or History Education major
*Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall
*Must have a current FAFSA on file with the UCO Office of Financial Aid
*Must provide a 1-2 page essay describing financial need and academic potential
