DEBATE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Tyler Henry Memorial Scholarship for Debate

Scholarship Mission:   This scholarship is provided to assist a student who has completed 12 hours at UCO and has been accepted to the Debate Team.

Value and Duration:  The value of the scholarship will be determined by the funds available and will be disbursed in the following academic year.

Qualifications:  The applicants must be accepted to the UCO Debate Program and have completed 12 hours at UCO.

Criteria:
*Must provide a letter describing influences in declared major, financial need and special circumstances.
*Must be accepted to the Debate Program
*Must have completed 12 hours at UCO.

Requirements:  The recipient must write a letter of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Debby Watson.  This letter must be turned into the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office, ATTN:  Terri Winblad before May 1, 2013.

Scholarship Packet must include:

• Cover Sheet
• Application
• Resume
• Current UCO transcript
• Letter describing influence in choice of major, financial need, etc.  (1-2 pages)

H.B. Mitchell Debater Scholarship

Scholarship Mission:  This scholarship is named in honor of former debate coach Harland B. Mitchell and is awarded to the student who exemplifies the best qualities of Oklahoma high school debate.   This scholarship is for Oklahoma residents only and is only available to students beginning their first year at UCO the Fall 2013 semester.

Value and Duration:  The value of this scholarship will be determined by the amount available and will be disbursed in the Fall/Spring semester

Qualifications:  The applicant must be an Oklahoma resident who has committed to attending UCO and plans on being active in the Debate Program.

Criteria:
*Must be an Oklahoma resident
*Must plan on attending UCO
*Must be accepted in the Debate Program.
*Must show competitive success by providing records and documentation from tournaments and quality competitions.  Other successes such as speaker awards and team awards, Oklahoma high school policy debate and national tournaments will be considered.
*Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
*Must provide a letter of recommendation from high school debate coach.

Requirements:  The recipient must write a letter of thanks the donors of this scholarship.  This letter must be turned into the College of Liberal Arts Dean's office, ATTN:  Terri Winblad.

• List of debate success
• Documentation of high school GPA
• Letter of recommendation from high school debate coach
