Student and Professional Organizations

Are you looking to become more involved with your major? Looking to network with Professionals in your field? The Department of Mass Communication has many major-specific organizations that allow students to participate in numerous local, state, and national events each year. Additionally, many networking opportunities exist with guest speakers and workshops hosted by these organizations.

  • UCO Student Chapter of American Advertising Federation

    • Monthly meetings, career roundtables, volunteer work and pro-bono campaigns, For more information contact: Jill Lambeth.
  •  UCO National Student Advertising Competition Team:

    • NSAC is an annual student competition sponsored by a nationwide corporation or organization. Participating students compete regionally and nationally with other colleges and universities. The students prepare a strategic plans book, non-traditional as well as print and broadcast advertising, and a client presentation. For more information contact Sandra Martin.
  • Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association

    • OBEA is the professional media student organization. Meetings are held on Tuesday's at 5:45pm in COM 119. Students have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, hear from guest speakers, tour media facilities, and apply for scholarships. Students also have the opportunity to have their work critiqued by industry professionals during the statewide OBEA Student Competition. Additionally, OBEA members participate in the OETA/OBEA student day held annually during the fall semester and the Oklahoma Association of Broadcaster's Conference during the spring semester.   • Public Relations Student Society of America

    • The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications. PRSSA seeks to advance the public relations profession by nurturing generations of future professionals. The association and its UCO chapter advocate rigorous academic standards for public relations education, the highest ethical principles, and diversity in the profession. PRSSA nationally is made up of more than 10,000 students and advisers organized into 300-plus chapters in the United States, with one in Argentina. The UCO chapter is very active and involved on the campus and in the community. Membership offers professional development and networking opportunities, particularly for those who volunteer their time to chapter leadership roles and activities. PRSSA helps students enhance their education, broaden their network and launch their career in public relations.
