Finney Scholarship

The Finney Scholarship is named after Dr. Frank Finney, the first dean of the College of Liberal Arts. He first came to UCO (then Central State College) in 1959 as an Assistant Professor of English, and was selected Chairman of the English Department in 1965 until his appointment as dean of the newly formed College of Liberal Arts in 1971. In this role, Dr. Finney took on the task of building a college. This involved hiring new faculty, creating new programs, expanding the curriculum, recruiting more students, and bringing people together to support a central goal. His belief that the foundation of all learning is in the Liberal Arts led the way in establishing a College that now has 8 departments (including our new School of Criminal Justice) and serves all students who pursue their degree at UCO.

The Finney Scholarship Fund honors Dr. Finney's hard work and dedication to UCO and its students. The fund provides annual support to Liberal Arts students, helping them achieve their educational dreams, and become productive members of our communities. The University of Central Oklahoma has long held a commitment to students-a commitment to teach, and a commitment to help students learn to lead and to succeed. We invite you to join us in strengthening this commitment.
