Applying for a VISA

The following information may be useful for you if you have not yet applied for your visa.

If you are coming to the United States as student, you need to have an F-1 visa. In order to receive that visa, you need the following documents:

1. Admission letter from UCO.
2. Passport
3. SEVIS fee (you can pay online with a credit card).
4. Your I-20 form which you received from UCO.

You should carry the following documents with you.

1. Academic Papers
a. Admission letter from UCO
b. Original or certified copies of your academic records. You will just need to show the ones that you needed to apply to UCO.
c. TEST scores, such as TOEFL
d. Correspondence from the university may be helpful.
e. Print-outs of e-mail, such as any letter you received from international students from UCO, from the advisor and Director.

2. Financial Papers
a. Bank statements from yourself or your sponsor. (At least three months).
b. Student with bank loans should provide necessary proof and documentation.

Why do some students get rejected?
Students get rejected if they do not appear as though they will either:
1. Return to their country once they complete their education.
2. Have the necessary funds to support their education in the United States.

Sometimes, the Visa Office is concerned with how much thought you have put into choosing UCO as your university. You should be prepared to answer the question, “Why did you choose UCO?”

During the Visa Interview, you should:
1. Relax and be yourself
2. Answer the questions openly and honestly.

Summary of things to prepare for the VISA interview
1. Passport
2. Signed visa application form (OF-156)
3. Demand drafts for the appropriate fees
4. Original I-20 from UCO
5. Necessary scores and transcripts (academic documents).
6. Proof of funds.
7. A cover letter is optional, but sometimes helpful if you have special circumstances.
