Assistantships at UCO are intended to be awarded only to the best students. The requirements to be granted assistantship status are intentionally rigorous and, as a result, the awarding of an assistantship is not always automatic.
Types of Assistantships
UCO has designated two separate types of Student Assistantships:
- Research Assistantships (RAs)
- Teaching Assistantships (TAs)
RAs are assigned to conduct and/or assist UCO Faculty Members in a specific research, creative and/or scholarly activities. Requests by individual faculty for the assignment of an RA are made to the Office of Research and Grants.
TAs are assigned classroom responsibilities which may extend from initial course or laboratory organization to the final evaluation of test results or laboratory assignments and the calculation and assignment of course grades. The Deans of the UCO Academic Colleges will recommend the assignments.
