Dr. Luis Montes, Faculty and Staff Campaign Co-Chair
Luis D. Montes is a Professor and Assistant Chair in the Chemistry Department. He is beginning his 12th year at UCO. In his time at UCO he has twice served as President of the UCO Faculty Senate, and has been involved in many other department and university activities including the Faculty Handbook Editorial Board and Academic Affairs Curriculum Council. In August 2007 he was awarded the Provost's Modeling the Way Award.
Luis earned a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.S. in Chemistry from New Mexico State University in 1990, and then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. While in Austin he met and eventually married Alyson Greiner. Alyson is currently an Associate Professor of Geography at Oklahoma State University.
Luis mostly teaches General Chemistry courses and labs for science majors, although he also enjoys teaching Introduction to Chemistry for Nursing and Funeral Service majors. He has also taught a seminar course for chemistry majors titled The Nature and Development of Chemistry. His scholarly activity primarily focuses on chemical education and the history and philosophy of chemistry.
Karen Youngblood, Faculty and Staff Campaign Co-Chair
Karen Youngblood is the Director for Staff Leadership Development and Training with the Professional Education department of UCO. She has been with UCO since 2005, and has been a part of various management functions (Leadership, leadership central and Administration, transportation and parking) before she joined the Academic Affairs division in 2010.
Karen facilitates the Leadership UCO and Leadership UCO Alumni programs, as well as directing the Especially For Educators program, which brings nationally renowned speakers to UCO to benefit our campus and statewide community. She develops and delivers training sessions that are open to all employees on campus in addition to leading customized development sessions and team retreats.
Karen was elected to the Yukon Public Schools Board of Education in 2007 and currently serves as President of the School Board. She is active in various educational and leadership organizations, and is an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she serves as President of the Journey's class. Karen will graduate with honors with a Master of Education, Adult Education and Training from UCO in December of 2011
Karen is married to Devery and they live in Yukon, where their greatest pride and joys come from their four children and a network of great friendships from all walks of life.
