course as required by the Department of Health and Human
Services regulations.
Animal Research
The UCO Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is committed to ensuring that the rights and welfare of vertebrate animals utilized in research and educational instruction are properly protected.
All vertebrate animal research
activities conducted by UCO faculty, staff or students
must be reviewed and approved by the UCO Animal Care and
Use Committee.

Further information and guidance regarding the laws and regulations which govern the use and care of animals in research and teaching can be found in the Animal Welfare Act, the Public Health Services Act, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.
Research on Human Subjects
The UCO Institutional Review Board (IRB) is committed to ensuring that the rights and welfare of human subjects utilized in research are properly protected.
All human subject research activities conducted by UCO faculty, staff or students must be reviewed and approved by the UCO Institutional Review Board with the following exception:
The collection of data by UCO offices/departments/programs for the purpose of assessing educational or administrative practices at UCO or complying with mandatory reporting requirements of regulatory agencies, will not be subject to review by the UCO Institutional Review Board. Any data collected pursuant to this exception must be represented in the aggregate and in no case will the study results identify, directly or by inference, the subjects' identities or specific UCO faculty/staff identities.

UCO is committed to and guided by the ethical principles regarding all research involving human subjects as set forth in the report of the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research entitled, Ethical Principles and Guidelines for the Protection of Human Subjects of Research, often referred to as the Belmont Report.
