Veterans Affairs: Filing a Claim
TO CLAIM VA EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS:

You must come to the UCO VA office each semester that you enroll.

You must have your Academic Advisor approve your classes on the UCO Veteran Enrollment Information Sheet each semester that you enroll.

If you are claiming benefits for the first time and you were on Active Duty, you will need to bring to the UCO VA office copy 4 of your DD form 214. If you paid $600.00 into the Plus-Up Program you will need to bring DD form 2366-1 and proof of $600.00 payment. If you have Army, Navy, or Marine College fund, you need to bring a copy of your Enlistment Contract indicating you are to receive it.

If you or your dependents will be receiving benefits on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, you will need to bring a Certificate of Eligibility or Award Letter from VA.

If you are in the National Guard or the Reserves, you will need to bring to the UCO VA office DD form 2384 (NOBE). If you are eligible for a kicker amount, you need to bring copy of your kicker contract. You get these forms from your Unit.

If you are in the National Guard or Reserves, and have been continuously deployed for a period of 90 days or more, you will need to bring to the UCO VA office DD form 214 (Copy 4) and copy of Deployment Orders.

If you are getting benefits through the VA Vocational Rehabilitation program, we must have VA form 22-1905 from your VA Case Manager.

If you are claiming benefits as a dependent, you will need to bring us a letter of eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs, or the eligible veteran's claim number or social security number.

The UCO VA office keeps the necessary VA forms that will need to be completed in order to apply for educational benefits.
