First-Year Excellence Scholarship Program

We are pleased to offer annually our First-Year Excellence Scholarships to students that have completed UNIV 1012: Success Central. The next available scholarships will be offered to students that complete Success Central in fall 2012. The scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2013 term.

Once again this year, the First-Year Excellence Scholarship program includes three distinct scholarships:

• First-Year Excellence Scholarship (Three awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding academic performance among the fall Success Central class. Financial need can also be a factor. This $500 scholarship is to be presented annually to three students.
• Civic Engagement Scholarship (One awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding leadership and initiative in the area of civic engagement among the fall Success Central class. An additional essay is required to be considered for this scholarship.

• Community Leadership Scholarship (One awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding leadership among the Success Central students participating in UCO's Living and Learning Communities.

Additionally, the FYE Outstanding First-Year Advocate Scholarship is awarded annually to the Enrollment Management student employee who goes above and beyond to serve our incoming students. This year's winner, Shelby Green, received a $250 scholarship in fall 2012. Shelby is a student employee in Transfer Support Services.

The application deadline for this year's awards is February 1, 2013. Your application and supporting materials must be submitted to the Office of First-Year Experience Programs by 5:00 pm on the 1st. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

First-Year Experience Instructor of the Year Award

The Office of First-Year Experience Programs is excited to accept nominations for our 2nd annual Instructor of the Year!  The winner will be recognized at the Annual FYE Professional Development Conference in April 2013 and will receive a $1000 cash award.

If you are a student who completed Success Central or Success Strategies in the fall 2012 semester or faculty/staff who taught the course in the fall 2012 semester, you are encouraged to nominate your favorite, exceptional FYE instructor for this award.  Nominees must be an instructor who taught Success Central or Success Strategies in the fall 2012 semester.
