First-Year Excellence Scholarship Program

We are pleased to offer annually our First-Year Excellence Scholarships to students that have completed UNIV 1012: Success Central.

Each year the First-Year Excellence Scholarship program includes three distinct scholarships:

  • First-Year Excellence Scholarship (Three awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding academic performance among the fall Success Central class. Financial need can also be a factor. This $500 scholarship is to be presented annually to three students.
  • Civic Engagement Scholarship (One awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding leadership and initiative in the area of civic engagement among the fall Success Central class. An additional essay is required to be considered for this scholarship.
  • Community Leadership Scholarship (One awarded) - This scholarship recognizes outstanding leadership among the Success Central students participating in UCO's Living and Learning Communities.

Additionally, the FYE Outstanding First-Year Advocate Scholarship is awarded annually to the Student Affairs student employee who goes above and beyond to serve our incoming students. The winner recieves a $250 scholarship the following fall semester.

The scholarship application deadline is generally February 1. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted to the Office of First-Year Experience Programs by 5:00 pm on the due date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

First-Year Experience Instructor of the Year Award

The Office of First-Year Experience Programs is excited to accept nominations for our annual Instructor of the Year! The winner is recognized at the Annual FYE Professional Development Conference each April and receives a $1000 award.

If you are a student who completed Success Central or Success Strategies or a faculty/staff member who taught the courses and would like to nominate a colleague, you are encouraged to nominate your favorite, exceptional FYE instructor for this award. Nominees must be an instructor who taught Success Central or Success Strategies in the prior fall semester.
