Sigma Theta Tau International
Sigma Theta Tau International is the Honor Society for Nursing. Founded in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University, this organization has grown to over 125,000 active members. In 1982 the University of Central Oklahoma joined the Beta Delta-at-Large chapter which includes members from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma Baptist University, Oklahoma City University, Southern Nazarene University and Southwestern Oklahoma University.
Membership in Sigma Theta Tau International is by invitation only to nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship. In order for UCO students to join Sigma Theta Tau International they must have completed 1/2 of their nursing curriculum, have at least a GPA of 3.0 based on a 4.0 grading scale, rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class and meet the expectation of academic integrity. In addition to these requirements, applicants must also be approved by the chapter membership.
Each year around 25 students from the University of Central Oklahoma are inducted into this international honor society. Students may obtain further information regarding membership from the Department of Nursing faculty serving as the Counselor and Vice-President for Beta Delta Chapter-at-Large
