Develop a Miniaturized Instrument for Fatigue Impairment

The Functional Genomics Group at the Federal Aviation Administration has discovered and validated a set of gene expression markers for sleep deprivation.  We would like to develop a miniaturized instrument that can utilize these gene expression markers to identify impairment in individuals and allow for the real-time quantitative detection of these markers in the work-place setting.  Some literature on this subject has been published and could be used by the student in the development of this tool.  This technology will ultimately save thousands of lives per year caused by fatigue impairment.

Interested students must:

1.      Be a Junior Biomedical Engineering at UCO.

2.      Have a minimum 3.0 GPA in the major courses at UCO.

3.      Be a U.S. Citizen.

4.      Send an application letter, a copy of the most recent transcript, and her/his availability (i.e. Number of hours per week to work on this project.) to Dr. Baha Jassemnejad via email: bjassemnejad@uco.edu.
