With Your Sincere Investment, the College of Mathematics and Science will always Live Central
When you invest in Central with your energy and generosity, you are impacting our state’s people, communities, and economy because you are helping us support and retain the best faculty members, recruit the brightest students in our state, and allow our programs to flourish beyond imagination.
With your investment in Central, you will be impacting generations of learners through:
Support of Students – Named scholarships to commemorate your time at Central or a family member, friend or mentor will lower the financial burden our students face and the debt they incur upon graduation, while providing incentives to attract Oklahoma’s brightest students to remain in our state and attend the University of Central Oklahoma.
Support of Teaching – Establishing endowed chairs will ensure that Central retains and recruits the best faculty members who engage our students in undergraduate research and provide cutting-edge and industry savvy knowledge, while keeping our faculty to student ratio far below average in comparison to our peers.
Interdisciplinary State-of-the-Art Laboratories – Dedicated laboratories for research driven collaborations between students and expert faculty members are a critical need of the college. Currently, laboratory facilities are lacking the separate space needed for teaching and research activities. Many of the current laboratories have been built but not properly finished or developed such as the biomedical engineering research laboratory or the needed expansion of the UCO Natural History Museum. We also envision a research facility where our students, faculty and community participants can come together to solve society’s pressing issues in the applied and basic sciences.
Center for Undergraduate Research and Education – The Center for Undergraduate Research and Education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CURE-STEM) was put into action in 2008 to promote faculty and student scholarship across the college. Student-centered research is a key component in UCO’s commitment to providing its students life-changing, transformative learning experiences. Still in its early stages, CURE-STEM provides funding to faculty who are developing new or expanding current undergraduate research programs and external funding opportunities. The Center also funds direct support to undergraduate student researchers, as well as supporting student travel to professional meetings and research sites. Current CURE-STEM scholars are seeing a $10 return for every $1 the college invests in the program. Our goal is to bring the Center to a point of self-sufficiency through a broad endowed fund that will strengthen annual operating resources.
