Dr. Mike Ferguson received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Kansas in 1987. He received his Ph. D. in organic chemistry from Iowa State University in 1993. He arrived at UCO in 1995, where he has supervised about 15 students engaged in undergraduate research. In addition to his research activities, he involves students in a variety of public outreach activities that promote chemistry such as chemical demonstrations and shows for area schools and other groups.
Dr. Ferguson’s primary area of research is the study of novel derivatives of ferrocene, an organometallic compound with unusual chemical properties. In addition, Dr. Ferguson is interested in developing new and creative experiments for the organic chemistry teaching laboratory.
