UCO Centre for Global Competency

The Centre for Global Competency at the University of CentralOklahoma represents an alliance between the offices of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs dedicated to providing UCO students a comprehensive, multi-cultural experience. The Centre for Global Competency endeavors to empower students to understand, appreciate, and personally thrive in a global world.
The Centre for Global Competency will help students become a globally competent individual, defined as:  

            A globally competent person is a global explorer who has encountered a world of new possibilities and is transformed into a resilient and dynamic leader.

In this increasingly diverse world, a recent survey made by the Journal of Managerial Psychology showed that 25% of Americans placed in global assignments were failing at great cost to the individual and the corporation.  There is strong motivation among corporations and institutions of all types to identify leaders who are globally competent.  The certificates offered by the Centre will provide certification on global competency that will bridge this confidence level.
Students will have the opportunity to document global knowledge acquired through academic achievement and global experiences by studying abroad or through interaction with local international communities.  A presentation of their own personal experiences and reflections will be the capstone project.  The certification from the Centre for Global Competency at the University of Central Oklahoma shows employers that students who are globally competent are flexible, self-reliant, motivated, team-oriented, open-minded, creative thinkers who have great regard for all people and are ready to compete, at home or abroad. The CGC certification process prepares students to achieve their goals and makes them attractive candidates to all employers.
