UCO To Present 62nd Annual Summer Band Concert as a Part of LibertyFest Celebration

June 20, 2011

The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music and LibertyFest, Edmond's annual 4th of July festival, will kick off the festival activities with the 62nd UCO/Edmond Summer Band Concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, June 28 on the lawn of the Heartland Plaza located at UCO.

The event will feature a variety of well-known patriotic songs/sing-alongs such as "An American Spectacular," a musical history of the United States; various compositions by John Phillip Sousa, American bandleader and composer; and a special tribute to The Boy Scouts of America featuring the Edmond Boy Scouts.

"We are very excited about this year's Summer Band LibertyFest Concert," said Brian Lamb, D.M.A., director of Central bands and conductor of the concert.

"The concert will be a special event.  It will include a special tribute to the men and women in our armed forces and veterans and a salute to our UCO/USA Olympic athletes," he continued, referring to the university's resident athletes who train on campus under Central's designation as an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site.

The event is free and open to the public.  Attendees will be offered free watermelon donated by Homeland Groceries and free ice cream donated by Blue Bell Creamery.
