The University of Central Oklahoma Marching Band, The Stampede of Sound, is a finalist in the "CBS Hawaii Five-0 Marching Band Mania" competition, and the only Oklahoma college band in the competition.
The winning band will receive $25,000 toward its school band program and the opportunity to have its entry video broadcast during a commercial break in the Oct. 11 episode of the new CBS series "Hawaii Five-0", airing Monday nights on CBS.
Online voting is open now through Oct. 4 and members of the public may vote once per day. To vote, go to www.uco.edu/cfad and click on the image of the marching band.
"Some of our band members work multiple jobs to pay for college. We would love to be able to give out more band scholarships to erase some of their financial burden and if we win this contest, we will be able to do just that," said Stampede of Sound Director David Hanan.
So far, bands from more than 30 states are competing, including over a dozen Division I football schools.
"We realize that we are competing against the big boys who have larger and well-funded bands, but that just goes to show our passion and resolve. Believe me these band members can really use the support, so we hope that all Oklahomans, regardless of their college affiliation, will vote and vote often and help to propel us to the top," said Hanan.
