UCO Melton Gallery Presents New Art Exhibit 'Route 44 - A Journey'

September 3, 2013

The University of Central Oklahoma Melton Gallery will open “Route 44 – A Journey,” an exhibit by Central design professor Larry Hefner, M.F.A., with a reception from 4-6 p.m., Sept. 12.

The reception is free and open to the public. The Melton Gallery is located in the UCO Art and Design Building.

Hefner began his career as a painter before applying his artistic talents to the field of graphic design, which led him to a professorship in design at Central.

“Route 44 – A Journey” exhibits the benchmarks of Hefner’s evolutionary painting style over the last 44 years.

“My essential abstract elements have been consistent over the years, but I’ve transitioned between different techniques and styles based on a variety of influences,” said Hefner.

Under the umbrella of “abstract illusionism,” Hefner’s work ranges from Americana influenced by Robert Rauschenberg to floral images influenced by Hefner’s graphic design work.

A diary-style, self-published book encapsulating full explanations of Hefner’s artistic evolution will also be displayed at the exhibit, enabling attendees to read more about his process.

The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 1.
