UCO To Lead Third Annual Oklahoma High School Dance Festival

Sept. 24, 2012

The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Dance will lead the third annual Oklahoma High School Dance Festival Oct. 5-6 at Norman North High School located in Norman at 1809 Stubbeman Ave.

The festival is comprised of two full days of dance classes and special showcase performances featuring the UCO Kaleidoscope Dance Company each evening at 7:30 p.m.  The evening performances will take place at the Nancy O'Brien Center for the Performing Arts located on the Norman North High School campus.  The performances are open to the public.

UCO dance faculty members will teach a variety of dance classes to the more than 220 high school students participating in the festival.  From ballet, modern and jazz to Bollywood, belly dance and hip-hop, there will be something for every type of dancer.

"The Oklahoma High School Dance Festival is a wonderful event that provides students with the opportunity to learn new dance styles and meet other dancers from across Oklahoma," said Tina Kambour, assistant chair of the UCO Department of Dance.

"This is the only high school dance festival in the state and we are thrilled to be leading it in its third year," she continued.

Participating high schools include Putnam City North High School, Southeast High School, Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, Capitol Hill High School, John Marshall High School, Tulsa Central Fine and Performing Arts Magnet School, Classen School of Advanced Studies, Northwest Classen High School, Norman High School, Norman North High School and Harding Fine Arts Academy.

The Oklahoma High School Dance Festival is sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
