The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Design will open the exhibit “One Step Closer: An Exhibition of Work from the Semi-Professional Student Studios in the Department of Design” with a reception from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Donna Nigh Gallery located on the fourth floor of the Nigh University Center.Offering light refreshments and live music by Central students, the opening is free and open to the public.
The exhibition will feature student designs from the Clocktower, InkTank, and Charles Evans semi-professional design studios that are a part of the transformative learning experience for Central’s graphic and interior design students. Through these studios, students produce professional-quality designs for real clients, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on design experience.
“This exhibit is a celebration of the trust that our clients have in our students and the high caliber of work they produce,” said Ruki Ravikumar, M.F.A., chair of the Department of Design.
“Since the work is done pro bono for clients who are really in need of design work, these semi-professional studios provide our students with the opportunity to engage in service learning, a tenet of UCO’s transformative learning process,” she continued.
The exhibit will be on display in the Nigh University Center through Nov. 8.
